Bike touring in the beautiful countryside of Virginia. Begin in Leesburg, Va and then head into “Hunt Country” around Middleburg, VA. Soon you are in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This is for starters on our Blue Ridge and Thundering Muskets Bike tour a 6 day bike vacation that explores the Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania countryside. You will visit 5 National Parks, and 4 states and more National Historical districts than you can count, practically a degree in American history.
Daily riding mileage is about 45 miles, with an average elevation gain of 1500 feet. Day 1 we begin in Leesburg on the W & OD Rail Trail. This is no ordinary rail trail, fully paved and undulating, a pleasant ride, not too flat, not too hilly, a great warm up.
Did we mention the world class Inns that host us. The first night of this bike tour finds us at The Red Fox Inn, Middleburg Virginia, who is celebrating their 4th century of hospitality, I can hear them scoff at our 50th Anniversary. Founded in 1728, The Red Fox has witnessed battles of both the American Revolution and the Civil War, hosted presidents and ambassadors, this just scratches the surface of this venerable institution.
