Shining lakes, towering trees, and winding roads await in New York’s stunning Adirondacks. You’ll be enveloped in the crisp scent of pine as you spend six days cycling through the mountains, stopping in quaint towns and spending your nights in luxurious yet casual lodges along the way. Day 1: We will meet in Albany, New York and shuttle to the beginning of our first day’s ride in Lake Luzerne. Today’s ride follows two of New York’s scenic rivers — the Hudson and the Schroon — so the climbs are mostly rolling and gradual. After the ride, relax at Friends Lake Inn. We’ll eat together at the inn’s Birch Bistro, which serves a locally-focused Adirondack menu.
Day 2: Leaving Friends Lake, you’ll encounter a few more climbs on your way to North Creek, where we’ll stop for lunch. Then ride along the Hudson again before tackling the last climb to the lodge. Tonight we’ll stay at the Garnet Hill Lodge, a gorgeous hilltop property near Gore Mountain. The restaurant and pub, as well as the balcony guest rooms, look out on pristine Thirteenth Lake and the Siamese Ponds Wilderness.
Day 3: Take some time this morning to appreciate the peace and quiet at Garnet Hill — take your coffee out onto the lawn and relax in an Adirondack chair. The view of the lake below is spectacular. Today we’ll shuttle to Tupper Lake to start our ride. From Tupper Lake, pedal through lush forest around Upper Saranac Lake, taking a quick stop at the famous Adirondack ice cream stop, Donnelley’s Soft Ice Cream.
Day 4: We have some relaxation scheduled today! Choose to join your guides on an optional hike in the mountains, or book yourself a spa day at the Hotel Saranac! If you opt for the hike, you’ll have the afternoon free to stroll around Lake Placid. Get some ice cream, enjoy the charming shops and check out the Olympic museum. Then we’ll head back to Saranac Lake, where you can stroll the town for dinner at your leisure.
Day 5: Today we’ll be riding one of the most beautiful routes in the Adirondacks! Our ride travels from Lake Placid, along the Ausable River to Black Brook. Then we’ll climb away from the water for a while to loop back around to the scenic towns of Ausable Forks and Upper Jay before ending our ride in Keene. From Keene, we’ll shuttle back to Saranac Lake. You’ll have some time to freshen up or grab a drink in the ballroom before our final dinner.
Day 6: After such a lovely week, you won’t want to leave Saranac Lake! Today we’ll have a short ride from Lake Placid into the Dix Mountain Wilderness. Starting from town, we’ll ride through North Elba with a great view of Cascade Mountain. Then roll through Keene and along the Ausable River again. The route goes through Keene Valley, a town appropriately known as “The Home of the High Peaks.” Keene Valley is surrounded by some of the most majestic and highest mountains east of the Rockies.
Taking a ferry ride on a bicycle tour adds a whole new element to your trip! Feel the spray on your face, breathe in the fresh air, see the landscape from a different perspective and enjoy those “free miles.”
Our bike tours at Wilderness Voyageurs visit a growing number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Rolling into each of these incredible places on your bike will be an experience you won’t soon forget.
Think nostalgic America: country roads, rolling farmland, covered bridges. Today, covered bridges are considered as historic landmarks and pieces of the past. However, during their most functional years, they served a higher purpose than shading you from the weather while on your bike tour.
