So Glad This Trip is Offered
The San Juan Islands, WA, are a jewel in the Pacific. I will be forever grateful for this experience. This was my third Wilderness-Voyageurs bike trip and the most diverse. The level of biking is not correct, however. Half of the group did have to ride in the van sometimes rather than bike the full trip. The mountain roads were difficult on the elevations but lots of fun on the downhill runs. This is a mixed bag for me because if the trip had been rated a level 3 for difficulty (which I think it was) I probably would not have signed up.
But then I would have missed the ocean kayaking, the lavender farm, the ferry rides, the Interpretative Experts on the whale watching tour (awesome!), and at Lime Kiln State Par. Roche Harbor, Friday Harbor, Lopez Island and the hike up Mt. Constitution are the other wonderful experiences I would have missed. And I would have missed the cross-training bike runs. That’s what I call them because I had to ride bike/push bike. My daughter, Barbara, joined me for her first WV experience and she biked the whole tour and loved it. So that was another highlight for me! And she has only been riding for 6 months, training for this trip.
You all do a great job at what you do and I will keep planning trips until I can’t ride anymore.
Rating: Excellent *****
