Biking Bourbon and A Storybook B&B
Select Registry: A Storybook Inn Bed and Breakfast
On the Kentucky Bike & Bourbon Tour we take you on a five day cycling adventure through the heart of Kentucky’s Bluegrass and Bourbon Region.
Not only will you be sampling some of the country’s finest Bourbon Whiskey, you will also be staying in some of Central Kentucky’s finest Inns and B&Bs. The first day of the tour is no exception! Our guests will bike right to A Storybook Inn Bed and Breakfast for fine dining and resort-like comfort.
A Storybook Inn is the oldest Select Registry Inn in Central Kentucky, the Horse Capital of the World. Historically known as Sunny Hollow, or the Amsden-Haupt House, the structure itself dates back to the early 1840s.
The current owner, C. Elise Buckley, is only the seventh owner of this elegant Inn and keeps the historic charm alive and well along every square inch of this spectacular Bed & Breakfast.
The four large suites are themed after classic movies, and are filled with beautiful antiques. Each of the private suites include special features too, like fresh flowers daily and large whirlpool tubs.
Their delicious, multi-course breakfast is served daily in the bright and airy conservatory, and features farm to table ingredients. It’s impossible to leave A Storybook Inn tired or hungry!
Spectacular Sunsets at the Sandaway
Select Registry: Sandaway Waterfront Lodging
If you are adventuring with us on our Chesapeake Bay Bike Tour in Maryland, you will get a chance to spend an evening at the Sandaway Waterfront Lodging.
Situated on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, and located in Oxford’s Historic District, guests can enjoy spectacular views of the Chesapeake Bay right from the Sandaway’s expansive lawn or private beach, and can easily walk to restaurants and shops in town.
The Sandaway was originally built sometime between 1873-1876 as a family home for Colonel Samuel Wetherill, Sr.
Upon his death in 1894, his widow sold the property to the Sinclair family, who ran the property as a hotel until 1902 calling it Sinclair House.
The property saw a few other owners over the years, until 1975 when Wendy and Ken Gibson purchased it, renaming it The Sandaway Waterfront Lodging.
The Gibson’s still run the B&B to this day. Each of the 18 private guest rooms are bright and airy, and all feature spectacular views of the bay and the quaint town of Oxford.
Sitting on the Sandaway’s screened porches or out on their beautiful lawn, guests can relax and reminisce over the day’s adventure, while enjoying the sunset glistening off the calm Chesapeake Bay waters.
A Warm Welcome in Amish Country
Select Registry: The Inn & Spa at Intercourse Village
Our Cycle Amish Country bike tour lets you glide through an era you thought had disappeared. How can you go wrong when you are visiting villages called Bird in Hand, Mount Joy and Paradise?
One of the great aspects of this region is the multitude of friendly roads, both in traffic flow and gradient. This lets us bike in and out of all lodging, and for you to modify a day’s ride to be exactly what you are looking for in your vacation.
The Inn & Spa at Intercourse Village offers our bike tour guests exclusive accommodations, exceptional cuisine, and an old world elegance that are a welcome change from this fast-paced world. From the inn, explore the lovely old village of Intercourse or just sit on the porch with a cup of tea listening to the clip-clop of horse-and-buggies traveling down Main Street.
This unique property is a beautifully restored home, a standout building in the historic village of Intercourse. The original home was built in 1909 and still boasts original chestnut woodwork. Mr. Samuel Futer built the home for John and Mary Leaman, a local Mennonite couple. Mr. Futer also built the first bank in Intercourse, which still stands at the intersection in the center of the village.
This lovely brick house is on a high foundation to let lots of light shine into the basement. The outside windowsills and lintels are made of the original Indiana Limestone, and the interior windowsills and trim are made from old chestnut wood – thankfully the house was built before a blight destroyed all the chestnut in the area.
Breakfast is sure to be a highlight of your stay here — delights like cheesecake muffins, baked pears with blueberry jam, pumpkin pancakes, broccoli cheese quiche and shoo-fly pie are usually on the menu.
Waterfalls, Wine and the William Henry Miller
Select Registry: William Henry Miller Inn
Our New York Finger Lakes Bike & Wine tour is a true gem in our collection of active vacations. The Finger Lakes region is home to almost 100 wineries, our moderately challenging tour rides by three lakes: Keuka, Seneca and Cayuga. On this trip, you’ll visit several wineries, hike along stunning waterfalls and visit historic sites, capping off each day with an evening at a lovely inn.
After our ride along the shore of Seneca Lake and descent to the world-famous Taughannock Falls, we stay in the heart of downtown Ithaca at the William Henry Miller Inn.
The Inn is within walking distance of as many as 50 restaurants including the world famous Moosewood Restaurant. Cornell University, Ithaca College and lots of neat shops are right around the corner. The breathtaking Cascadilla Gorge is a block and a half away, and a few more streets down you’ll find Ithaca Falls.
On your way out the door for the evening, make sure you peek into the dining room at the dessert buffet. Dessert is served all evening, so you can be free to indulge after a long day of riding! Then you can put your feet up and read by the fireplace in the Music Room or Parlor or retreat to your room to rest up for another delightful day.
Serenity on the Shenandoah
Select Registry: The Inn at Vaucluse Spring
Guests riding with us on our Shenandoah & The Civil War Bike Tour get to experience what we like to call, Serenity at the Spring.
The Inn at Vaucluse Spring is a beautiful and intimate bed & breakfast, with six individual guest houses set on 44 scenic acres in the sprawling Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.
Originally built in 1785 by a young Revolutionary War Captain, the Vaucluse Manor house was inhabited by the Jones family until the late 1860s.
The property endured years of disuse until 1997 when partners Neil and Barry Myers restored the house, and began converting the property into the stunning B&B you can experience today.
In 2015 Derrick and Tiffany Niide, the current Innkeepers, stepped onto the property and instantly fell in love with its rich history and the breath-taking landscape of the surrounding Shenandoah Valley.
The Inn’s namesake is the large limestone spring that sits in the center of the property. Named after an important spring in France, the Vaucluse Spring pours forth over a million and a half gallons of crystal clear water every day.
Rise in the morning to a decadent three-course breakfast, and complete the Vaucluse Inn’s full, five-star Bed & Breakfast experience.
… and this is just some of the unique & historic lodging that we feature on our tours.
