Yough fishing Conditions April 12 2012
Ohiopyle and Youghiogheny Fishing Report
It’s a great year when we have conditions like these for the opening of trout season!
Good levels prevail on the Yough and all of the tribs. Laurel Hill, Dunbar and Meadow Run have been fishing well. The Casselman has been outstanding!
Water temps have dropped a bit due to cold nights and are usually hovering around 50. Conditions are perfect for wading with only a little rain in the forecast for the opening day on Saturday.

Dale’s Spring Fly Fishing Tip
We are catching a good number of nice size trout swinging streamer flies. Wooly Buggers in olive or black sz 6-8 and small Clouser Minnows in olive or brown have been working well. For your nymphing choices it’s hard to beat a sz 16 Pheasant Tail and a sz 16 Green Caddis Larva. Both should have Bead Heads for attraction and added depth on your presentation. Good fishing!
Remember the Youghiogheny provides more than 18 miles of trout water thanks to releases from the Youghiogheny Dam. Even in the middle of summer the maximum water temperature on the Ohiopyle gauge is 65 degrees. This is perfect temperatures for Browns, and rainbows. The Yough has a number of tributaries that are worth exploring; Cassellman, Laurel Hill, Meadow Run and Dunbar just to name a few. Within, 45 minutes of our Ohiopyle shop there is a lifetime of trout waters to explore,, get out there and in to it!
