Bike + Bourbon bonanza!
This was my second trip with Wilderness Voyageurs and I am HOOKED! My first WV bike tour was a very rainy, but still amazingly fun “Easy Rider” GAP/C&O tour last year. Their trips feature beautiful routes in varied parts of the country, and in the case of the Kentucky Bikes & Bourbon trip, three of my favorite things: bikes, bourbon, and horses! Who wouldn’t be drawn to this cycling tour?!
The people we met along the route in Kentucky were awesome, and our bike tour guides (Chris, Bill, & Taylor) were top-notch, super laid-back and fun, while still being incredibly helpful and professional.
Probably the greatest thing about the trip was how flexible the whole experience was! Want to ride “EFM” (every f-ing mile)?–Got you covered. Got whipped by the hills and unseasonable 90-degree heat and want to crash in the van instead of biking for an afternoon?–Totally fine. Group member with dietary restrictions?–Guides bend over backwards to help and source specialty food items in the smallest and most charming of towns.
The Inns were all lovely and chock-full of Southern charm — especially the Storybook Inn, with its tasty hummingbird cake! Visiting Keeneland, WinStar Farms and the 4 distilleries (Wild Turkey, Buffalo Trace, Willett, and Woodford Reserve) were interesting and a lot of fun. They all featured their own great tour guides who really lent local flavor to the trip. Plus, the bourbon tastings were awesome to look forward to and were delicious!
Now I just need to decide which bike tour to go on next…!
