Perfect Morning for Bike Touring
Meet the Easy Riders! These lucky people are on the trail as we sit at our computers – they’re riding, we’re dreaming about riding. They headed out this morning – it was a little grey and a little overcast, but just the right temperature to ride the Great Allegheny Passage from Ohiopyle to Cedar Creek. The best part about starting a ride from Ohiopyle State Park is the instant beauty. If you pedal downstream towards Pittsburgh, you cross the high bridge almost immediately. The old railroad trestle was originally constructed around 1906 by the Western Maryland Railroad and became part of the Great Allegheny Passage in 1999 . It is now one of the most beautiful bridges to ride along the GAP with stunning views of the Youghiogheny River gorge. It’s hard to ride across without stopping to enjoy the river views and take some photos! Don’t rush the experience. Enjoy it.
These excited riders crossed the trestle fueled by bagels and cappuccinos. How can you start a ride without coffee? Love Buzz is the staff’a favorite roast – Americanos & Cappuchinnos are also on the list for favorite espresso drinks (yes, we enjoy our coffee around here). So as the riders rolled on to Garrett Street this morning to meet their fellow riders and transfer their bags to the SAG (Support & Gear) vehicles, they did so with complimentary coffee beverages and freshly toasted bagels from Rapid Java. Getting ready to ride! Filled water bottles – check. Pumped Tires – check.
Bill and Raina will guide this fun group to the best stops on the GAP and C&O canal for the next 4 days. Stopping to enjoy the must-not-miss spots. Including a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater home. The Easy Rider Bike Tour is the perfect tour if you are new to bike touring. Average daily mileage is 35 miles with an estimated 3 to 4 hours of riding time. The stops are numerous, meals are delicious & sights are world famous! Five years from now, this group is still going to be telling stories and looking at pictures!
