Happy Monday in Ohiopyle
The sun finally appeared yesterday! The first time in 2010! Blue skies were a welcome change to the Pennsylvania grey of the last few weeks and the trails of Ohiopyle beckoned skiers from all over. After cleaning the chimney, Sunday requisite around the home duty,
we set out for Sugarloaf. There were so many cars parked on top it looked like a resort! The sledding hill was full of kids, cross country skiers were on all the trails, snowshoes tromped along, and even the snow mobiles were out and about. A consummate multi-use trail event sharing in action. Laurel Ridge cross country ski area had one of their busiest weekends on record. Northwoods was a bustle as well.
We stuck with good ol’ Ohiopyle though. With this much snow, it’s possible to take off through the woods leaving the trails behind. Our ski started at the top of Sugarloaf, down through the trees to Lytle road, back up to Sugarloaf and off the trail. That’s where the fun began! We stomped over trees, creeks and down some glades before winding our way back to the official Sugarloaf trail. From there we climbed back to Baughman just for the thrill of a straight, fast descent back to Ohiopyle. The trail was perfect! Enough snow finally packed down the wet areas making for a speedy ski.
Nachos and a Hop Devil IPA at Falls City Pub hit the spot after the ski!
