The weather lifted on Tuesday allowing for a perfect, bluebird day for climbing. After making a 5+ hour trip from Toledo, students from Maumee Valley Country Day School got to try their skills on a rock crag just off The Great Allegheny Passage Trail.
Climbers then jump on their bikes and made the short ride to the base of the of the climb. Once there, students learned climbing commands and were given a knot tying demo.
The day started with a safety and gear instruction at the pavilion where Zane and Danny gave the low down on fitting helmets and harnesses.
After suiting up, It was time to climb! WV instructors belayed climbers giving each of them the opportunity to charge up the rock face.
For many of the7th graders, this was their first introduction to the sport of climbing but this adventure was only day ONE in a three day trip to Ohiopyle State Park with Wilderness Voyageurs.
