Ohiopyle whitewater rafting 2015 kick off weekend
Whitewater Rafting Season 2015 is right around the corner
Say goodbye to this gnarly ridiculous winter, and think long summer days filled with sunshine and good times in the outdoors. We certainly are focusing our brains on those moments soon to come!
Before we get to summer, is that other great season… Spring. Besides tulips and cherry blossoms, around here that means the beginning of the whitewater season, and it usually means big water. Which equals big fun!!!!!
Celebrate the beginning of the rafting season with 2 rivers, good food, good music and great times.
Head for Ohiopyle on Saturday April 11th, we will start the kickoff weekend with a Lower Yough Rafting trip. This class 3 whitewater trip is just a hoot. Lots of fun, not too overwhelming. In April, we never know what the water level will be, so the trip may be the standard guide escorted format, or if we have spring “high” water flows, the trip will be fully guided in 8 man rafts. Either way this is a great way to get familiar and comfortable with rafting, and serves as a stepping stone and warm up for the Cheat River. (Not sure where we are talking about? directions to Ohiopyle)
Saturday Evening the festivities will take place just a few steps from the rafting center at Falls City Pub. We will get the evening going with a “tap takeover” by our friends from Four Seasons Brewing, based in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, 40 minutes from Ohiopyle. You may have encountered these guys at Beer & Gear in the last few years. If you are joining us for the whole weekend event, a scrumptious buffet is included and you should chow down because you need to be ready to dance to the live music.
As an aside…
The brewing renaissance that is occurring in Western PA is down right “off the hook” but that is the subject for another blog. Did you know that there are 6 breweries within 50 minutes of Ohiopyle? Do stay tuned for additional “Tap Takeovers” that will be happening monthly at the Pub. Pencil in the dates of May 14, July 9, August 20th and September 17th.
Sunday Morning it is time to head south to Albright, West Virginia to tackle the might Cheat Canyon!! Have your game face ready for this 11 miles of rowdy whitewater fun. The Cheat River has many moods, but all of them = Class 4- Class 5 whitewater. The Cheat is the largest undammed watershed east of the Mississippi, meaning every day is a new day on the Cheat. No dams also means we only get to plan on rafting the Cheat during the spring. This is truly one of the gems of the rafting world.

Why are we doing this you ask?? Well we are really excited to get the 2015 rafting season underway, and we really want to introduce people to the Cheat Canyon.
