Have you ever heard of the Top Yough?

This past Friday, after a spectacular day Shredding down the Upper Yough, I had the opportunity to do an impromptu kayak run on the Top Yough. This section of the Youghiogheny is upstream of the Upper Yough and characterized by superb whitewater, mostly 4 ft drops and boulder gardens. The first rapid is the unforgettable Swallow Falls, a 20 foot cascading slide. Let’s go to the video tape . . .

Of course, it’s not all about pumping up the adrenaline. The Top Yough is a beautiful section of river enjoyed by hikers, anglers, and sight-seers. Here’s a shot of Swallow Tail falls seen from far upstream:
