Whitewater Kayak Instruction

Welcome to the next step in your whitewater kayaking journey! Our Learn to Kayak II clinic is designed for new paddlers who are eager to continue to explore the exciting world of whitewater kayaking on the Youghiogheny River in Ohiopyle.

In this class, you’ll build on the skills you learned during our introductory Learn to Kayak Weekend and take your paddling to the next level. You’ll receive expert instruction from our experienced guides who will help you gain a deeper understanding of moving water, with a focus on using the fundamental skills to move through and around river features.

For safety and class dynamics, we require paddlers to be proficient in fundamental kayaking skills:

• Basic boat control
• Eddy turns and peel outs
• Ferries
• Self-rescue (wet exits)

Before taking our Learn to Kayak II clinic, it’s highly recommended that you first participate in our beginner Learn to Kayak weekend and practice using our demo boats on the Middle Yough. These experiences will help you to gain the necessary skills and confidence to fully enjoy and benefit from this clinic.

Private Kayak Instruction

If you want more individualized coaching, private instruction is always an option. This option gives you personal time with an instructor to really hone your skills and advance your kayaking technique. You can choose to do one-on-one instruction or bring a few of your paddling buddies. Included with private instruction:
