Yough Fishing Report June 10
Water Conditions
Locally heavy thunderstorms on Thursday 6/9 have “muddied the waters.” Meadow Run and Dunbar are unfishable at this time. The Yough, on the other hand, is at perfect level. Water temp is 58 degrees. Caddis are hatching and the fishing is incredible!! The forecast is for more rain so a call to the shop to check current conditions is wise (724-329-5517). Otherwise check the US Coast Guard link on our website for current river levels.
An “Epic” Green Drake hatch is now history. This is the third year of excellent Drake hatches and should make for some fine fishing next May and June. However, there are hatches “galore” to fish right now. Sulphurs continue as do March Browns and they will be joined soon by the following:
Light and Cream Cahills Sz 14-16
Slate Drakes Sz 12-14
Yellow Drakes Sz 10
Yellow Quills Sz 14-16
Tan & Silver Caddis Sz 12-16
Guide’s Tip:
Higher water levels call for streams fished tight to the bank and in the eddies. Trout will seek these calmer waters until flows drop. You should also try brightly colored nymphs fished in deep runs.
