Ohiopyle fishing bug report 8-28-2014
Bugs = good fishing
Arrived at work here in Ohiopyle this morning to be greeted by indicators of a good fishing weekend. I had to step over a couple of these bad boys to get in the door.
Golden Stone Flys
They were not particularly large, but there are many more where this guy came from . On the water I have seen a numb of larger specimens in the last 2 weeks.
Also greeting us on the porch this morning was:
A nice little Slate Drake. A bit smaller than the slates we have been seeing though out the summer. But they are still hatching in pretty good numbers.
If you are in Ohiopyle to fish, stop by our Ohiopyle outfitter store and look closely at the wooden siding. Our store is located about 100 yards from the Youghiogheny, and many bugs come to rest on the building.
Water temperatures are beginning to cool just a little, and bug activity is on the up swing. Top water action has been quite good for the last week. Water clarity is about perfect this week, the small storms that have moved through have caused just enough discoloration as to hide you fem the fish.
Blue Wing Olives are also being seen in good numbers.
Wilderness Voyageurs is your Ohiopyle fishing headquarters, If you are in the Ohiopyle area, stop in the shop, more than 500 patterns to choose from. We are also a Pennsylvania Fishing license sales point and Guided fishing trips are available daily. If you are a DIY kinda fisher, canoes and rafts are available for rent for the Middle Yough, which is the section of river from Confluence to Ohiopyle.
We maintain a Facebook fishing page, where we encourage all anglers of the Yough to post their pictures, questions, or musings on fishing.
