Blue Canoe Brewing – help them out
Western PA beer culture
The legacy of brewing here in Western Pennsylvania, stretches way back, I mean way back. Have you ever heard of the Whiskey Rebellion? It was a small incident that took place in Fayette, Westmoreland and Greene counties, in 17934. It actually involved George Washington, a bunch of troops and some really feisty Scotch farmers. If you are really curious check out Whiskey Rebellion history here
That spirit still pervades these hills and valleys, and has helped to produce one of the most vibrant brewing scenes in the country. There are more than 20 breweries in the region!
Now one of those breweries needs some help. On March 18th there was a fire in downtown Titusville, in a building adjacent to the Blue Canoe Brewery. The brewery was spared from flames, but a significant amount of water damage occurred.
There home has been in downtown Titusville,Pennsylvania at 113 South Franklin Street. The plan is for them to return there once the building is repaired. At this writing the goal is a late summer reopening.
Blue Canoe Brewery has been an annual favorite at Beer & Gear. If these guys have poured you a beer, consider helping them out. They are great guys brewing great beers and are an integral part of a small town’s fabric.
You can help them out by donating to a crowd funding account set up to help them weather the storm. And of course once they are back up and running go savor one of their tasty brews and chow down on their glorious food.
The other breweries in the area have really stepped in and stepped up to help the brewery survive. The guys over at Voodoo Brewing washed their kegs, no small feat, Erie Brewing provided them capacity to brew some special batches, Fire Ale-arm, and collaborations on other brews with East End Brewing in Pittsburgh. That is just for starters! SO really cool to see an “industry” work together.
The Tribune Review did a story on the fire and the brewery.
