What’s SUP in Ohiopyle All About?

Stand-up Paddle (SUP) boarding has quickly become an incredibly popular way to enjoy the water. Take a stable surfboard, add a large canoe paddle, and you end up with a recreational watercraft that can be used in oceans, lakes or rivers. With more physical freedom, less gear and a fast learning curve, it’s easy to see why the sport has such high appeal.

Wilderness Voyageurs is your Ohiopyle and Youghiogheny source for Paddleboard rentals and guided tours. We offer river-specific paddleboards to learn the basics and get you up and paddling. There are two different options for your SUP experience:

SUP Board Rentals

Already have SUP experience and just need to rent a board? We have paddleboards available for $35 per day. Rental includes paddle and lifejacket (PFD). Reservations are recommended. Pick up your board at our Ohiopyle Outfitter Store, adjacent to the railroad tracks. You will need tie-down straps if transporting on roof racks. The Yough Lake is the best destination for an afternoon of lake boarding. It is about 11 miles to the closest launch on Yough Lake, just outside of the town of Confluence. If you have experience in moving water and are up for a workout, the Middle Yough, a class I-II section of river is also an option. This section of river is 9 miles, so it is a pretty big day of paddling. We highly reccomend that if you want to SUP the Middle Yough, that you do it with a group of folks with multiple crafts so that you can switch out who is paddle boarding.

SUP Tours

Get a fun group introduction to SUP! These introductory tours are available on weekends, or any day with a group of three or more. No previous experience is necessary!

Check in time is at 9:00. You will be transported to Confluence where you will hit the river after an orientation session. The trip will cover about 2.5 miles of moving river water, and last approximately two hours. Come prepared to get wet! Wear old tennis shoes or water shoes that will stay on your feet—NO flip flops. The cost for this guided experience is $65/person. Reservations are required. Tours are available every Saturday and Sunday, and can be booked on line, Monday through Friday, requires a group of 4 people to operate the tour.
