Road Biking the Laurel Highlands
Road Biking in the Laurel Highlands
Road Biking
A local favorite is over Sugarloaf mountain to Confluence and back. It's a good climb, great scenery and not too much traffic (except for Saturday in the summer). Check out mapmyride.com for more rides in the area. It's a wealth of information. Don't forget to scope out rides in Confluence, Somerset & Farmington. The Great Allegheny Passage is an beautiful alternative to the roads - especially if you don't want to climb. The crush limestone rail trail travels through Ohiopyle State Park and is a beautiful ride. The 2% grade allows you to enjoy the scenery without breathing too hard! Sensational! Especially if you are a climber. There are great hills and beautiful rides. Feel free to call the shop (800-272-4141) or stop in for some route suggestions. Keep in mind -there aren't wide shoulders on the local roads and traffic isn't accostomed to bikers on the roads. So ride with care!
