Ohiopyle Fishing Water Conditions April 5, 2014
All Youghiogheny tributaries have crested in Ohiopyle as of Saturday AM. Things will become fishable starting Sunday. We do not anticipate the Yough being very fishable below Confluence this week. We will update this just prior to opening day of trout season.

Ohiopyle fishing Wilderness voyageurs

This picture to the left is of Meadow Run just above the 381 bridge in Ohiopyle.  As you can see there is a fair amount of discoloration, but on the verge of fishable.

The picture below is the Yough between the 381 bridge and the Great Allegheny Passage bridge.  The discoloration is significant and will probably maintain this color for 2 more days.

Ohiopyle Hatches & Fly Recommendations

Hatches have been in fits and starts due to the up and down of the temperatures.  Your best bet is to emulate what is supposed to be happening. Keep in mind that water temperatures are a bit below average.

Hatches we have seen on the Yough near Ohiopyle and on the local tributaries.
Midges Grey & Black size 20-22
BWO size 18 – 22
Caddis Gray & Black size 16-18
Winter Stone Flys Black 18 (these have been quite plentiful)

Also try the following patterns:Bead head prince nymph

Bead Head Prince Nymph size 12-18
Pheasant Tail size 16-18
Wooly Bugger Olive & Black size 8- 12
White streamers size 4-8

The flys on the left are the Bead Head Prince Nymph in a size 18.  The flys on the right are the Pheasant Tail size 18.
