Biking by the bay

Biking by the bay

When you mention the eastern shore of Maryland, it conjures many different images.  Some folks will dream of the board walk of Ocean City and of cotton candy and the hub hub of the beach scene.   We tend to think of a simpler time and of a place that is in touch with the ebb and flow of the natural cycles.  This bike tour explores the ‘western’ side of the eastern shore, so you will be biking by the bay side, not the ocean side.

Evening at the Sandaway Lodge

Things are a tad calmer here in the neighborhood of Oxford, Maryland.  Where we find ourselves the first 2 nights of our tour. Go ahead, take a deep breath and drop the cadence of your life back a notch or two.

Sandaway Lodge Waterfront Maryland

This is an area that was first settled by English settlers in 1631, many of those same family names are prevalent today.  This is a region of farming tobacco and harvesting the bounty of the bay.

Josh is a much better bike tour guide than a “waterman”  He is also an amazing photographer.

Restaurant by the bay

This is one of Josh’s images.  Awesome light and a great place to have dinner following a day of biking.

Chesapeake Bay Seafood feast

Keep your eyes peeled, the Black Water Wildlife Refuge, is home to the largest breeding population of Bald Eagles on the east coast, north of Florida. How many eagles can you find in this photo.

Biking by the bay

Ok, you got us, there were none in that photo. Next one will be easier …

You deserve a little down time, finish up your cycling season with a quick getaway to the eastern shore of Maryland.
Evening along the water

The cycling on the eastern shore is mildly rolling ( highest point is 102 feet above sea level, and we do not even summit) with very little traffic.  Add in some sea food, and sunsets and you have a stress free biking destination.  We operate fully supported bike tours in April, May & October to this low key destination. Check out the Biking by the Bay detailed itinerary.
