| Whether
this is your first whitewater rafting trip or you're an experienced rafter,
the Lower Yough (pronounced
"Yok") is a blast!! And what could be a better way to
spend a hot summer day then on the river? The Lower Yough is Class III
whitewater which means it is fun. (Read our Yough River Rafting blog for stories!) It's perfect for those who haven't had
prior whitewater experience or for those who have. Trips are offered
daily 9:00, 11:00 or 1:00. Reservations are highly recommended.
The standard trip is operated as a guide
assisted trip, but is also offered with a guide
in your raft or as a deluxe
trip. If you have experience and are ready to
tackle the whitewater on your own, rafts
or duckies are available to rent.

Lower Yough Raft trips are offered in the following ways:
Guide
Assisted: The standard trip format and the most common way to
experience the Lower Yough. You captain your own raft, but you are never
far from a guide. The guides paddle along with you in kayaks, assisting
and directing you through rapids. The other options are Guide in Boat
or The Lower Yough Deluxe Trip. Click here for a detailed
account of the day. Price
Range: $45.00 -$65.50
Guide In Boat: Just as it sounds there
will be a guide in your boat to captain the raft and entertain your crew!
You will be a part of the standard Lower Yough departure with an extra
level of service and security. There is an additional cost for this service
and must be reserved when you make your reservation. Lower
Yough Trip Price plus an additional $95
Deluxe: Experience the Yough on
a personal level that no other trip offers. There will be a guide in every
state of the art self-bailer raft & this trip is limited to 20 participants.
Low guide-to-guest ratio allows your guide to relate the natural and local
lore of the river environment. Embark on a side hike while your gourmet
lunch is prepared along the riverside. Price
range: $90.00-$95.00
Rentals: Do you have plenty of experience
and want to tackle the Lower Yough on your own? Rafts, Duckies and Shredders
are available to rent. A launch permit is required
from the state park on weekends. Please call 888-PA-PARKS for your permit.
You are required to run your shuttle (ie: leave a car at the take out
parking lot for the equipment & your group). You will need shuttle
tokens to bring you from the river to the take out parking lot. They are
available for $3 per person from the launch booth the day of your trip.
Daily Price
range for rental equipment $17.50-$30.00. You must arrive at
our outfitter store 1 1/2 hours prior to your launch time.

on a guided trip.....
You'll begin your day at Wilderness
Voyageurs' Outfitter Store where you'll check in, receive
your life jacket & helmet and meet a couple of your River Guides.
From there you'll be transported to the staging area where you'll begin
your river trip. Dividing into groups of 4 - 6 people, you'll climb into
your rafts for a quick introduction to river running before hitting the
water. River safety, paddle strokes, boat maneuvering and what to expect
on the water will all be covered. From there you'll head to the river
and the fun begins!
After
a few moments of getting comfortable in your raft and listening to your
captain's commands, you'll float into the first Class III rapid, Entrance.
That sets the stage and gives you a feel for the rest of the day. The
Lower Yough is 7.5 miles of Class III - IV whitewater
rapids. It is considered a drop & pool river: the rapids are separated
by calm deep pools, allowing you to catch your breath and enjoy the scenery.
You will stop along half way through the day for a deli style lunch -
complete with cookies & Fruit! It is a thrilling whitewater experience
& full of adventure!
What
do you need to bring? Quick
dry shirts and other items are available at our Outfitter
store if you don't have the necessary gear or forget it at home. Shop
online and have your new gear waiting for you at check in!
- Always check the weather before your trip
so you can plan accordingly.
- Shoes you can get wet & that will stay on your feet. Everyone must
wear shoes!
-Bathing Suit, Shorts,
quick dry tank tops & t-shirts are all good options.
-If it's cold out: Wetsuits are available to rent for $10 or splash jackets
for $5. DO NOT WEAR COTTON! Sweatshirts, jeans, long sleeve T's are not
a good idea. Wet cotton will make you colder instead of warmer. If you
have any thermal long underwear or rain jackets/pants bring those.
-Sunscreen & sunglasses are always good to have.
How
many people do you need for a reservation? To open a new trip,
the minimum requirement is 6 people. If you are joining an existing trip,
there is not a minimum requirement. Come solo and you will be grouped
in a raft with others and end the day with new friends! The maximum trip
size is 80.
