The beauty of Fall in Ohiopyle!………….Fly Fishing Report!
Ohiopyle Trout Wilderness Voyageurs

Fall is upon is, and there’s hardly a prettier time of year to be on the water. The leaves are turning in the river valley and the next couple of weeks will see peak autumn splendor! Cool mornings and mild days; dress in layers if you plan to be out all day. Fall also means less boat traffic, so expect to have the river mostly to yourself.

With the cooler water temps and consistent flows we’ve been seeing some of the best and most active trout fishing this week since July! Bigger fish are starting to turn on and give chance to streamers as well as solid nymph fishing. Many fish have been taken lately on stonefly imitations. Top water attention is still possible with October Caddis (sz 12 cinnamon) as well as BWO’s and Midge’s galore.

The Smallmouth bite has been hot and cold. Typically most activity has been during the warmest periods of the day along with typical bi-urnal habits. Crayfish patterns are still moving fish when it’s slow, but as the day warms up the feed bag goes on! Streamers are the go-to at this time with different combinations of olive, white, or black being most productive.
A good way to cover water and move fish in general right now is swinging and stripping streamers for a mix bag experience. Remember to Always know your limits and exercise caution on the river.
