Great Allegheny Passage bike Tour launch

CSX appropriately making an appearance this morning – sending off this crew of Great Allegheny Passage Rail Trail (formerly the Western Maryland Railroad) riders! Have a great trip!

Great Allegheny Passage Wilderness Voyageurs

This group is loading up and departing from the Wilderness Voyageurs base in Ohiopyle. Join us on a three to six day biking vacation on the GAP. This trip is a four day, “End to End” tour and will begin riding in Homestead, Pennsylvania and finish in Cumberland, Maryland. Stops along the way are Perryopolis, Ohiopyle, and Meyersdale, PA.

Have you heard about the GAP, but have not checked it out yet?  Well you do not have to commit to an entire vacation.  Come on down and rent bikes in Ohiopyle, and head out on the trail for a few hours.  Head south for 9 miles and you end up in the lovely little town of Confluence, where there are many meal options.  Grab a lunch and a craft beer or bottle of wine and then head back “downhill” to Ohiopyle.

The GAP has been built on the abandoned rail bed of the Western Maryland Railway, located primarily on the southern and western side of the Youghiogheny River.   The train you see above is the main CSX line along the Yough.  This is a double track main line, and is the him elf the Amtrak Capital Limited passenger train.
