FAQ's
Scout FAQWhat whitewater rafting trip is most appropriate for Boy Scouts? The Lower Youghiogheny (Yough) is the rafting trip that the most scouts participate in. Our recommended minimum age is 12. There are BSA requirements that you must meet for a scout to attend a white water trip. The Cheat Narrows in Albright, West Virginia, is also appropriate. Are your Merit Badge counselors registered?YES!! Good question! Make sure to ask any outfitter you are considering, this question. We are the only outfitter in Ohiopyle with registered counselors. We are registered with the Westmoreland-Fayette Council. Do your guides meet BSA requirements?Yes! All of our staff is certified in First Aid & CPR. All trip leaders (one on every trip) possess an advanced first aid certification; many are ski patrollers during the winter. You are responsible for fulfilling Safety Afloat guidelines regarding adult participation. Can family members attend scout programs? We have no problem with other family members rafting or participating in other activities as long as everyone meets the minimum ages. Many scout troops will have the scouts participate in the merit badge programs and open the whitewater rafting trip to the entire family. Where would you recommend that we camp while in Ohiopyle? To make your planning easier, consider one of our packages, which include camping at Benner’s Meadow Run. Ohiopyle State Park campground is within hiking distance from our base. Scarlett Knob, offers scout camping rates. We are participating in Merit Badge Program, what do we need to bring?Don’t forget to bring your blue cards! Also review the prerequisites for each badge, Whitewater requires the Canoeing Merit Badge, Climbing-we require the knots, Fly fishing- nothing. Our scouts need community service hours, can you help?Consider participating in our river clean up day during May, where Boy Scouts will earn 8 hours of Good Turn for America hours. During the rest of the year, contact Ohiopyle State Park at 724-329-8591 or Fort Necessity at 724-329 xxxx. They have ongoing projects that are appropriate for Scouts and can be accomplished during the evenings of your stay. Do you have packages?Yes! View the multi-day packages: Splash Down, Surf & Turf, Paddles & Biners. Are tents available to rent?Yes. |
