Pittsburgh to DC Bike Trip - 6 Day Trip

The Trip Itinerary (lodging is subject to change depending on availability)

Day 1

  • Boston to Ohiopyle  Great Allegheny Passage
  • 56 miles
  • Lodging: Trillium Lodge
  • Highlights: Dravo Cemetery, Dawson Historic District, Colonel Crawford's Cabin, Youghiogheny Opalescent Glass, Ohiopyle Falls

Day 2

  • Visit to Fallingwater (OPTIONAL)
  • Ohiopyle to Frostburg, MD
  • 58 miles  Great Allegheny Passage 
  • Lodging: The Hotel Gunter
  • Highlights: Town of Confluence, Salisbury Viaduct, Meyersdale Train Station, Frostburg MD

Day 3

  • Option 1: 77 miles. Frostburg, MD to Hancock, MD
  • Option 2: 60 miles. Cumberland to Hancock
  • Lodging: Inn at Berkeley Springs
  • Highlights: Canal Place, Paw Paw Tunnel, Little Orleans
  • Great Allegheny Passage and the C & O Canal 

Day 4

  • Hancock, MD to Shepherdstown, WV
  • 51 Miles to Bavarian Inn on the C & O Canal 
  • Highlights : Fort Frederick, Williamsport, Park Service Museum, Sharpsburg Historic District

Day 5

  • Shepherdstown, WV to Violettes Lock, MD
  • 35 miles on the C & O Canal
  • Lodging: Leesburg, Virginia
  • Highlights: Antietam Battle Field ,Shepherdstown, Harpers Ferry Historic District

Day 6

  • Violettes Lock to Georgetown

Your trip includes:

  • Sag van support, Two support staff
  • Breakfast for 5 days,
  • Lunches and snacks for 6 days
  • Lodging for 5 nights
  • Dinner nights 1 & 2.

Sag Wagon: 15 Passenger Van and 12 foot box trailer - This vehicle will meet all riders in Ohiopyle and shuttle everyone to our start point in Boston, PA on day 1. This vehicle will provide daily support to the group throughout the ride. This support will consist of shuttling riders between the trail and nightly lodging, rendezvousing with the group at trail intersections, preparing lunch, "sweep" vehicle during any road sections. At the conclusion of the trip in DC we will provide shuttle back to Ohiopyle.

Staff Persons: Two guides who will operate the Sag Wagon, prepare meal stops, ride portions of the trail to provide on trail assistance and keep the bikes tuned on a daily basis.

Mobile Repair Shop: All necessary parts, including the carrying of two (2) spare bicycles.

Food: Breakfast is included, most mornings it will be at your place of lodging. Daily lunch is a menu appropriate for multi-day calorie burning trip. Daily snacks to consist of fruits, energy bars etc. Drinks with lunch, and a continual supply throughout the day of water or desired beverage, a vegetarian option will be available if necessary. Dinner is included on the first 2 night; all other dinners are on your own at the lodging facility or local restaurant.
